Healthy People 2010
The Healthy People 2010 Objectives were developed as part of a community wide
activity led by the Lincoln Lancaster County Health Department. This is a 10
year health prevention effort that assessed health status in Lancaster County
covering 21 areas of public health. The plan is separated into three major
subject areas -- Healthy People, Healthy Environment and Healthy Behavior.
Through an intensive information gathering process, recommendations to improve
health status were formulated with indicators used to benchmark and measure
progress in each area. Indicators represent any number of statistics that measure
change in the health status of a given population. This includes statistics
such as average age of death, infant mortality or the incidence of a chronic
disease. Goals for improvement are based on making favorable changes in these
indicators over time.
The plan includes more than 200 recommendations for implementation over the
ten years from 2000-2010. CHPF intends to develop resources for those areas
where the most help is needed. In order to define these areas, the Foundation
developed a community input process. A report summarizing the results of this activity can be found
on the Initiatives Report page.
